Bergamot is an Italian citrus from the Citrus family. Its production area is mainly restricted to the the Ionian coast area, in the province of Reggio Calabria, to the point of becoming a symbol. Nowhere else in the world, in fact, is there a place where this citrus fruits with the same quality of essence. The harvest of bergamot has as purpose, almost exclusively, the production of the essential oil, whose uses are multiple: in the cosmetic industry, for the production of perfumes, tanning creams and cosmetics in general, in the production of alcohol, in the gastronomic and food field and in the medical field as well. Azienda Agricola Patea, which deals with the processing of extraction of bergamot essential oils, has a structure of 600 square meters and is equipped with advanced equipment and machinery. In 2011 has signed a collaboration agreement with Unionberg (Association of bergamot producers). Today, Azienda Agricola Patea produces about 12,000 kg. of essential oil a year, counting on over 200 local producers give about 2500 tons of fruit, which the company then transforms in essence for domestic and foreign market.
